Coach Neal Rusher Architect: Wray High School Football

The formation of the community of Wray by the resilience of the early settlers sets the stage for the legacy of Coach Neal Rusher. As one of six children growing up on a small ranch in southeastern Colorado, Coach Rusher embraced the work ethic and discipline installed by his mother and father. His competitive nature was formed by the interaction with his brothers and sisters. A sense of community was formulated by attending church services with his family and helping the neighbors with their work. His high school and college coaches instilled within him the value of teamwork and planning. Coaching was his calling, and the opportunity for the challenge to change the failing tradition of Wray football was intriguing. His wife, sons, players, and their parents, and members of the Wray community aided him in forging a winning football tradition. Read more
