Quarantined specialty puffer for carefully planned freshwater aquariums in Canada.
The Green Spotted Puffer is an intelligent, bold pufferfish with a bright green spotted pattern and a very interactive personality. It is often sold young in freshwater, but it is best understood as a brackish-water puffer that requires proper long-term planning.
Provide a mature, strongly filtered aquarium with stable water, hiding places, and careful long-term planning. This species is not recommended for a standard freshwater community aquarium and may require brackish conditions as it matures.
Best kept in a species-focused or carefully planned brackish setup. It may nip fins and become aggressive with tankmates.
Puffers need a varied meaty diet and should not be treated as flake-food community fish. Hard-shelled foods such as snails, clams, mussels, shrimp, and other crunchy items help wear down the beak-like teeth.
Colour and pattern come from the fish's natural appearance and healthy conditioning. Topick Aquarium does not use dye or hormones to artificially enhance colour.
All fish at Topick Aquarium are carefully quarantined and conditioned to our stable local tap water before sale. Some oddball and specialty species still have very specific long-term needs, so we recommend matching each fish to the right aquarium size, diet, tankmates, and maintenance routine before purchase.
Is the Green Spotted Puffer a freshwater fish?
Juveniles are often seen in freshwater, but long-term care is usually planned around brackish conditions.
Can it live with community fish?
It is not recommended for normal community tanks because puffers can nip fins and become aggressive.
Why does it need hard-shelled food?
Puffer teeth grow continuously, so crunchy foods help control beak growth.
