IntroductionThe Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (SFPC) is a state regulation promulgated by the Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development, a Governor-appointed board, for the purpose of establishing minimum regulations to govern the prevention of fire hazards and unsafe conditions, and to ensure public safety in existing buildings, structures, and premises.The provisions of the SFPC are based on nationally recognized model fire codes published by the International Code Council, Inc. These model codes are incorporated by reference into the SFPC through a regulatory process.
