When covering distance is the priority, the Zegul Velocity 18'5" 3D C-Core is the fastest sea kayak in the Frontenac lineup, and it's not particularly close.
Built for intermediate to advanced paddlers in the 130 to 220 lb range, the Velocity is optimised for speed and efficiency without becoming a specialist boat that only works in ideal conditions. Sharp entry points and an 18'5" waterline generate impressive glide and rapid acceleration, while the flared, full-bodied bow sheds water cleanly in big conditions and keeps the hull tracking through challenging crossings. The shallow arched hull minimises resistance and transitions smoothly from edge to edge, and the slightly wider 21.25" beam adds a degree of stability that makes the Velocity accessible to ambitious paddlers still building their open-water confidence. Soft chines provide predictable secondary stability, though edging for tight turns requires more deliberate technique than a shorter hull.
3D C-Core construction uses layers of carbon, carbon/aramid, and fibreglass with vacuum-infused marine-grade epoxy resin and a full HD LRA core for a hull that's both exceptionally stiff and genuinely lightweight at 46 lbs. The sandwich deck with carbon/aramid reinforcement keeps the overall package torsionally rigid where it matters most. The 32.25" x 16.5" cockpit accommodates longer-legged paddlers comfortably, and the contour backband, multi-adjustable thigh braces, and slidelock footpegs set up precise contact points for efficient rolling and bracing. Four Kayak Sport VCP-style hatches with a centre day pod provide serious storage capacity for extended expeditions.
